Abstract

Humor, as an important factor in sitcoms, is a magic weapon to draw attention from audiences. The humor in sitcoms can be roughly classified into two types: linguistic and visual type. The linguistic humor is mainly reflected by subtitles on which audiences rely to follow the contents of sitcoms, to understand the various cultural factors the sitcoms convey and to sense the humorous effect. Thus, subtitlers should consider conveying not only the content but also the humorous effect. Based on The Big Bang Theory, a popular American sitcom in China, this paper tries to analyze translating skills of different type of humor in subtitle.
This paper is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author discusses the characteristics of subtitle and its corresponding translation requirements. In the second part, the author introduces the contents and main characters of the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, especially humorous effects in it. The third part is the center of this paper, in which the author analyzes the skills of translating subtitles and the conveyance of humorous effect in detail. The author classifies the subtitling humor into universal humor, cultural humor and wordplay. And she puts forward specific translating skills to convey the humorous effect of source texts according to the different type of humor.

摘  要

幽默是情景喜剧中的重要因素，是吸引观众的主要法宝。情景喜剧中的幽默大致可分为语言类和视觉类，语言类的幽默主要通过字幕表现出来。观众也正是通过字幕来跟进情景喜剧的内容，了解剧中所传达的各种文化因素，感受其幽默效果。所以在翻译字幕时，译者要考虑内容的传达，更要考虑幽默效果的传达。本文以在中国广为流传的美国情景喜剧《生活大爆炸》为例，分析字幕中各种不同幽默的翻译策略。
本文分为三部分。第一部分探讨字幕的特点及翻译要求。第二部分介绍情景喜剧《生活大爆炸》的内容以及主要人物，尤其是它的幽默特色。第三部分是本文的中心，详细分析字幕的翻译技巧及幽默效果的传达。作者把字幕中的幽默分为普通幽默，文化幽默，和文字游戏，并针对不同的幽默提出了相应的翻译方法，以便更好地传达原文的幽默效果。
