摘要：

张培基是我国现代著名散文翻译家、学者，在我国翻译界有着举足轻重的作用。多年来，张培基老先生笔耕不辍地工作，为下一代年轻学者留下了许多优秀作品，尤其是他的《英译中国现代散文选》很受广大青年的欢迎，并使他们从中受益。自尤金奈达的翻译理论引入后，在中国翻译界有着重大的影响。他的功能对等理论，为翻译提供了一个全新的标准，即以译入语读者对译文的反应与原文读者对原文的反应一致为标准，这是在中国翻译界前所未有的创举。本文以功能对等理论为指导，对张培基的《英译中国现代散文选》在意义层面上进行研究，分析译文与原文所表达的意思是否基本准确、一致，以及对张培基的翻译原则及方法进行探究。

Abstract:

Zhang Peiji is a famous translator of Chinese essays and scholar, who has influenced greatly in Chinese translation field. For many years, Mr. Zhang has been continuously and diligently working, and leaves plenty of excellent works for next generations. Especially Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays is quite popular among many youths and benefits them. Since the introduction of Nida’s translation theory, it has an influence on translation field in China. His functional equivalence theory provides a completely new standard, that is, the response of translated reader to the translated text should be correspondent with the response of the original reader to the original text, which is the unprecedented achievement in Chinese translation field. This thesis is under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, and the author will conduct a research on Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays in terms of meaning to analyze the difference between the original text and the translated one in meaning. Furthermore, the author will also make an exploration of Zhang Peiji’s translation principle and skills.

1.    Introduction
    Besides fiction, drama and poetry, prose has been also an essential genre for several thousand years. It acts as a bridge between Chinese culture and western culture in the development of literary works. In recent years, prose translation has been popular among translators due to its beautiful styles and language. Although many translators can translate and study some foreign literary masterpieces systemically, fewer translators spread Chinese culture to the outside world. In this case, Zhang Peiji, a distinguished translator, has been sparing no effort in C-E translation of Chinese modern essays for over fifty years, which makes a great contribution to the translation cause. Zhang has published the series of Selected Modern Chinese Essays which attracts much popularity since its publication.
