Chapter One A Brief Introduction
In recent years, there is a vigorous demand for interpreters, particularly conference interpreters in China. With the new jobs thus created, mostly in major cities, interpreting has firmly established itself as a distinct profession. However, there also emerge such problems as a lack of qualified interpreting professions and a dearth of proper channels for interpreters and their prospective employers to contact each other. Many universities in China have launched the course of interpretation for senior students of English major. Though students’ English has reached a certain level, when undertaking the task of interpreting which is high-demanding, they face tough jobs. In most cases, the major problem for them is incomplete information, which is caused by many factors. This paper discusses the possible reasons for this phenomenon from six aspects. Thereafter, it explores effective coping strategies to address those phenomena including, enhancing personal ability, improving translation capability, enhancing memory, combing short-term memory with note-taking, making prediction, and having a strong heart.
