摘要：

近年来，随着中西方的密切交流，中国传统文化越来越多地被翻译成英文并传播到其他国家。在此背景下，传统文化的翻译工作显得尤为重要。婚丧文化是中国传统文化的重要组成部分，目前关于婚丧文化翻译方法的论文尚不多见。异化和归化是重要的翻译方法，但是在使用过程中没有统一的选择标准，因此在翻译界有很大的争论。本论文主要以《京华烟云》为例，探讨作者在描写中国婚丧文化时异化和归化翻译方法的使用和选择，他们各自的优缺点等。

Abstract:

These years, with the communication between the west and the east, traditional Chinese culture is in popularity in other countries. Therefore, the translation methods are of great significance in the exchange of different cultures. The wedding and funeral culture is an important part in traditional Chinese culture, and there are few theses which specialize in the translation of wedding and funeral culture in Moment in Peking. Hence, there exists large space to explore .Domestication and alienation are the two major translation methods that translators tend to use in the translation of different culture. However, there is no detailed principle in choosing the proper translation methods, which leads to large controversy in the choice alienation and domestication as well as the misuse of the two methods in translation. This thesis focuses on the study of translation methods that Lin Yutang applied in the description of wedding and funeral in Moment in Peking. In addition, the author will mainly introduce the two above-mentioned domestication and alienation, summarize the strengths and weakness and discuss some choosing methods between domestication and alienation.

1.    Introduction
In this paper, the author will study the translation methods applied in the description of traditional Chinese culture in Moment in Peking. The two main methods-alienation and domestication will be introduced in detail. The thesis will be divided into six parts. First of all, the author will give a brief introduction of the book and its author— Lin Yutang, stating the feasibility of the topic. In this part, the author will also introduce the traditional Chinese wedding and funeral culture. Next, the paper will present the definition of alienation and domestication and then lists several examples existing in the description of wedding and funeral in Moment in Peking. In the following part, the author is going to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods and show how to make a choice between them. At last, the author will give a conclusion.
