Abstract
It is collectively acknowledged that language is inseparable with culture, which means every linguistic activity links closely to the culture itself. A Dream of Red Mansions, as the epitome of the Chinese feudal society, boasts of rich and enormous life and cultural contexts, extraordinary depth of thoughts, incomparable writing skills, and unique artistic and aesthetic values. All these, however, pose great challenges to translators. The aim of this thesis is, from the perspective of the relationship between translation and culture, citing and analyzing some examples in Yang Xianyi couples’ and D.Hawkes’ translations A Dream of Red Mansions, and to elucidate the great influence of cultural differences such as the differences between source language and target language, between Eastern and Western thinking modes and translators’ different culture subjectivity on interlingual translation
Key words: interlingual translation; culture differences; A Dream of Red Mansions
