Abstract
More and more foreign films are appearing in cinemas of China with the rapid development of cultural communication. So they are playing a more and more important role in cultural exchange among countries. Good film subtitle translation can convey the correct information to the audience with the limited time and space, making the film more attractive and understood. However, in China, there is not any systematic theory about film subtitle translation to guide the translation practice. This thesis tries to carry out a study on film subtitle translation from the perspective of Skopostheorie. In light of Skopostheorie, translation is an activity witch has its own purpose. Thus film subtitle translation is also a purposeful activity, conveying relevant information to the target audience under a specific cultural background according to the director’s intention. This thesis is made up of the following parts: first of all, it summarizes the film subtitle translation studies in general and then introduces the concept and major principles of Skopostheorie. Thirdly, it will give a case study of Frozen in detail under the direction of Skopostheorie. In the end, a conclusion is given, the author will present the contribution and limitations of the thesis and some suggestions for further study on the subtitle translations of film.

摘要
伴随着日益密切的国际文化交流,中国大屏幕上的外国电影日益增多,因而电影在跨文化交际中的角色也越来越重要。在时间和空间都有所约束的情况下,优秀的电影字幕翻译能够准确传达电影的思想,使电影更具吸引力和魅力。但在中国,电影的字幕翻译尚无系统明确的理论指导。本文试图从目的论角度对电影字幕翻译进行研究。
在“目的论”者眼中,翻译是一种有目的的活动,因而电影字幕翻译同样具有目的性:其目的在于根据导演的意图,向身处特定文化背景下的目的语观众精确地传递电影内容与思想。本文首先介绍字幕翻译的总体研究,然后介绍目的论的概念和基本原则,其次是在目的论指导下对《冰雪奇缘》进行个案研究。最后总结全文,指出本文的贡献和局限之处以及对该领域进一步探究的建议。
