摘  要

随着我国经济的高速发展和对外开放以来在各个领域取得的众所周知的成就，我国已经并且即将举办越来越多的重大国际型政治，经济和文化活动。然而，作为最便捷的信息载体的公示语出现了各种错误和不规范的现象。公示语翻译能否实现其原本功能，不但影响到外国友人在中国的日常生活，还关系到城市的精神面貌和整体形象。因此，为了树立我国的良好国际形象，不断规范和完善公示语的翻译工作十分重要。在这样的背景下，本文以已有学者的研究成果为前提，总结了汉译英公示语的主要类别并重点列举了汉译英公示语翻译错误的类型，分析了误译的原因，并在此基础上探究和归纳了汉译英公示语的翻译方法以及翻译原则。希望为今后公示语汉英翻译的规范与完善工作尽自己的一份绵薄之力。在进行一系列理论研究之后，本文选取了一些经典的误译案例，分析了这些案例中的不足，然后提供了改译译文，旨在加深读者的理解与感悟。

Abstract

With the rapid economic growth of our country and its great achievements in many fields after the implementing of opening policy, our country has held and will hold more and more important international activities of politics, economy and culture. However, as the most convenient carrier of information, public signs have presented lots of mistakes and lacked standardization. Whether the translation of public signs could achieve its functional purpose exerts an influence not only on the daily life of foreign visitors, but also on the spiritual outlook and the overall image of our cities. Therefore, in order to establish a positive international image for our country, it is of much significance for us to improve the translation of public signs. Under this background, this thesis summarizes the main category of Chinese to English public signs and particularly lists the types of mistranslated public signs as well as the reasons. In addition, this paper also analyses the methods and principles of the Chinese to English translation of public signs with the hope that it may contribute to the regulation of the translation work. Accompanied with a series of theory analysis, this article also consists of a few classic cases of mistranslation and their corrections to deepen the readers’ comprehension.
