1. Introduction
1.1 About A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones
A Game of Thrones is the first book of the series A Song of Ice and Fire written by American author George R. R. Martin, and was first published on 6 August 1996. It is an epic fantasy novel about a story that happened in a fictional land called Westeros and its seven kingdoms. In the novel, by presenting various points of view (POV) and plot-lines, Martin introduces the noble houses of Westeros, the Wall, and the Targaryen. And because of its magnificently construction of world, the up-and-down plots, and vivid characters, this novel has made all the world crazy about it. John H. Riskind once commented that in The Washington Post “many fans of sword-and-sorcery will enjoy the epic scope of this book” but felt that the book “suffers from one-dimensional characters and less than memorable imagery.” (28th July, 1996) This novel had won many awards of great significance such as Locus Award (1997), Hugo Award (1997); and was nominated for World Fantasy Award (1997), Nebula Award (1997). Till nowadays, this book has been translated into more than 30 languages, with 20 million copies sold all over the world.
