摘要

     当今世界，随着全球化进程的加快，各个国家，各种文化交流也随之日益频繁。在过去的二三十年中，影视翻译取得了一些发展，特别是影片名翻译，片名虽小，但他起到的作用是很大的，本文阐述了电影片名命名特点和功能,具体分析英文电影片名的翻译原则和翻译方法,如运用直译、音译、增词法、减词法、改译等多种手段,采用这些方法就能够很好地保证汉英电影译名在译入语观众中产生和在原语观众中相似的效果。此外，文章还对大陆、香港、台湾三地的译名进行了比较,指出无论在采用直译和意译或是音译时都存在很多的不同之处，这也是由于三地的文化差异造成的。总之，电影片名对于电影往往能起到画龙点睛作用,它不仅可以突显影片内容,传达主题信息,还可以吸引观众,增加电影票房收益。

Abstract

In today’s world, with the accelerating process of globalization, the communication between different countries and different cultures has become more and more dynamic. The past two and three decades has witnessed no small developments in the field of movie translation, especially in movie title translation. Although movie title is short, it plays a very important role in movie distributing. This paper attempts to expound the features and the functions of English movie titles, and make a concrete analysis of translation techniques of English movie titles, such as the use of literal translation, transliteration, amplification, omission which can better ensure English movie title translation with similar effect in the target language audience. In addition, by presenting a comparison of English movie title translation among the three regions of China: the Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, this paper presents an evolutional road map of of Chinese translation of English movie titles in different regional subcultures.

1. Introduction
As Chinese economic goes rapidly and the culture exchange with foreign countries becomes more and more frequent, a large number of English movies has entered the Chinese market. Almost every foreign movie’s title has been translated into Chinese when entering China, it is difficult for Chinese audience to get access to a foreign movie if its title is not translated into Chinese. Movie names are a type of adverting words, which is similar to book titles, merchandise names and news headlines. The translation of English movies’ title from one language to another is a heated topic in the field of the translation of practical writings now. A fine movie title can be remembered by generations along with the movie itself, while an inferior one may write off an excellent movie. English movie titles’ translation is one of the communication behaviors of human culture. And “the communications of human are restricted by the context in which the customs of cultures rooted.”(Nord, 1997) The translation of movie titles is closely related to the cultural background. Because the Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan have different economies, social systems and lifestyles, these areas develop differently with their own unique subcultures.
