Abstract

With the development of economic globalization, the internationalization of business activities has accelerated rapidly. The participants of international business activities should possess adequate cross-cultural communicative competence. It follows that cultivating cross-cultural communicative competence is essential for Business English teaching. Taking the college Business English class as a case study, this study explores the current situation of Business English class through class observation and after-class interview. The findings show that the teacher starts with the basic concept, organizing group discussion and other teaching methods to cultivate students’ cross-culture communicative competence in the business English class. After-class interview shows that some students have their own understanding of Business English. Meanwhile, they regard class instruction as beneficial for their intercultural communicative competence yet there is still room for improvement. Though it is a case study extending only a limited period of time, it is hoped that this study can shed some light on cross-cultural communication and a further study can be conducted on this topic.

摘要

随着经济全球化的发展, 商务活动国际化进程加速,国际商务活动的参与者应具备更强的跨文化交际能力。因此,培养跨文化交际能力成为了商务英语教学的重要内容。本文以某高校商务英语课堂为个案研究对象,通过课堂观察及课后访谈的研究方法分析商务英语课堂现状。研究结果表明:在课堂上,教师从基本概念入手,通过小组讨论等教学方法培养学习者的跨文化交际能力;通过对教师及学习者的课后访谈,了解学习者对商务英语的理解。同时,他们也认为课堂学习提高了自己的跨文化交际能力,但还存在一些不足之处。本文对商务英语课堂进行个案研究,旨在进一步认识语言学习中的跨文化交际能力,同时为培养跨文化交际能力的商务英语课堂提供切实可行的建议。
