Abstract

Address forms, an important part of human culture, play an important role in people’s daily communication. Using address terms is the p recondition for people’s communication, Kinship terms reflects the blooding relationship among persons or the marriage ties, and there are similarities and differences reflected by the roles they played in the course of the historical development of each ethnic group. This paper discusses the main differences English, Chinese and Kazakh address terms and their makes an attempt to illustrate “The difference” which are more likely due to the functions of kinship rather than “cultural context”.

摘要

称呼语是言语交往过程的总要组成部分，在许多情况下，称呼语是传递给对方的第一个信息。正确使用称呼语是人们交往顺利进行的前提。亲属关系反映了人们的血缘或婚姻关系，它在世界各民族的发展历史进程中所担任的角色既有共性, 又有差异。比较英，汉，哈三种语言中的亲属称呼语，说明造成它们之间“差异”主要原因是亲属关系的功能不同。

1. Chapter One Introduction to Address Research
Language is closely related with society. Every slight social change is recorded in language. In other words, language is deeply imprinted with society. Language is a tool not only to communicate, but also to establish and maintain social relationships between interlocutors. Fasold holds that when people use language, they do more than just try to get another person to understand the speaker’s thoughts and feelings. At the same time, both people are using language in subtle ways to define their relationship to each other, to identify themselves as part of a social group, and to establish the kind of speech event they are in. Address forms, an important part of human culture, play an important role in people’s daily communication.
1.1 Significance of Address Research
In a diachronic sense, we can trace the social change through the study of Address terms. For instance, by observing the use of kinship terms in a cottage near Kunming and other foreign cultures, Luo discovered some important marriage systems. Address terms are considered as “the trace of language”or living fossils.
