Abstract

Britain has a long history and owns much cultural heritage. All kinds of cultural heritage is currently preserved very well. This paper selects some of typical well-preserved sites of cultural and historical heritage, and briefly introduces several pioneers’ contribution to protecting cultural heritage. For a long time the governments in Britain and its public both have been making great efforts protecting cultural heritage. People’s awareness of protection is improved and system of protection become more and more established. So this paper attempts to summarize the successful experience of the British case with the aim to bring favorable reference to Chinese protection work of our cultural heritage.

摘 要

英国历史悠久，文化底蕴深厚，拥有数量众多的文化遗产。各类文化遗产目前保护状况良好。本文选取介绍了一些保存良好的、有特色的文化遗产，并简要介绍了几个文化遗产保护先驱者们的事例，进一步分析了英国各级政府和大众在文化遗产保护方面，长久以来做出的努力，增强了人们的文化遗产保护意识，形成了比较完善的文化遗产保护体系。本文总结出英国文化遗产保护的成功经验，希望可以给我国的文化遗产保护事业带来有利的借鉴。

1. Introduction
There is no doubt that Britain is an attractive country with considerable cultural heritage. If you meander around in the countryside of Britain, you will find that sites of cultural sites like Mr. Darcy’s Pemberley not only exist in the description of Jane Austen’s romantic and classic stories, but also scatter around the country, accidentally you may meet one of them. As you know, Chatsworth House, located in Derbyshire, is the place where the film Pride and Prejudice was shot in 2005. When you enter the Christ Church of Oxford, you would cry out in surprise, “Wow, this is the Hogwarts.” The church of Oxford University should become a magical world without too many decorations.
In Britain everywhere we look, history surrounds us. Yes, we can easily find scenes to make a costume play everywhere in Britain, seldom do they need any deliberate reconstruction. Staying at these churches, castles and manors, you would feel that time seems to have stopped because they are preserved very well.
