摘  要：

外交的对象主要是国家。外交是处理主权国家之间的事务，语言是外交工作的重要载体。外交语言用来阐述本国的立场，看法，发布公告，公布会谈结果，回答敏感性问题以及缓和交际气氛等活动。外交语言有其不同于一般语言的独特之处，其显著特征就是讲究策略和礼貌。模糊语言具有简洁性，灵活性和概括性的特点，这恰好符合外交语言的要求。本文首先对外交的概念，外交语言的概念和特点进行了叙述。接着，叙述了模糊性的概念，并分辨了几个与模糊性易混淆的概念，同时从主观方面和客观方面对模糊语言存在的原因进行了分析。最后本文对模糊性在外交语言中的功能进行了分析。在外交活动中，外交官和国家领导人利用模糊策略来达到交际目的。本文希望通过对模糊语言以及外交语言的研究提高外事活动中的沟通技巧。

Abstract:

Diplomatic activities mainly occur between countries. Diplomacy is the negotiation between international affairs, which takes diplomatic language as its carrier. Diplomatic language is employed to state a nation’s position and view, announce the outcome of a talk, to answer sensitive questions and to harmonize the atmosphere. However，different from the ordinary language, diplomatic language is characterized by strategies and politeness. Featured with its terseness, flexibility and generality, vague language successfully meets the demand of diplomatic language. This paper first describes the definition of diplomacy, the definition and features of diplomatic language. Then, it gives the definition of vagueness and distinguishes it from some related confusing terms. The reasons for the existence of vague language are given from the objective and subjective point of view. At last, this paper analyzes the functions of vagueness in diplomatic language. In diplomatic affairs, the diplomats and country leaders choose vague strategies to meet their communicative needs. The study of vague language and diplomatic language attempts to give some enlightenment to the study of communicative skills in foreign affairs.
