Abstract:

As a symbol of social civilization, sport is an indispensable part of modern life. With the increase in exchange between China and the outside world, sports news reports are playing an important role in helping people learn about the international sports events, which attracts increasing numbers of people’s attention. Therefore, the stylistic study of English sports news seems to be of great importance. As a genre of news, English sports news has not only all the features of other ordinary news, but also its own distinctive characteristics. Thus, this paper，based on relevant theories of stylistics, is designed to explore the linguistic features of the English sports news from the angles of lexicology, syntax, discourse and rhetorical devices, and with the help of a miniature corpus, the study will be more convincing. The analysis shows that English sports news has many unique linguistic features, such as the use of many rhetoric devices, nicknames, short verbs, and so on. Learning about these features can not only help people understand English sports news better, but also help journalists write such news reports.

摘  要：

作为社会文明的一个标志，体育是现代社会生活中不可缺少的一部分。随着中国与国外的交流日益增多，体育新闻的报道在帮助人们了解世界体育赛事上起到了重要的作用，吸引了越来越多的人关注。因此，对英语体育新闻的研究显得尤为重要。作为新闻的一种，英语体育新闻不仅具有其他普通新闻的所有特征，还具有其自身的独特性。因此，这篇论文在文体学的基础上，从词汇，句法，语篇以及修辞等角度对英语体育新闻的文体特征进行探究。为达到研究的可信性，本文通过建立小型语料库的形式实现。这篇论文显示了英语体育新闻的诸多独特特征，诸如大量修辞手法的运用，昵称及短小的主动动词等的运用等。了解英语体育新闻的这些特征，不仅能够帮助人们更好的理解英语体育新闻，而且能够帮助记者更好的撰写词类新闻。

1  Introduction
    As English is the universal language, Chinese sports lovers, to keep themselves informed of the world sports events, sometimes read English sports news, which seems to be inevitable. English sports news, as a genre of news, not only has all the features of ordinary news, but also has its own unique linguistic characteristics, such as lexical features, syntactical features, tense and voice features and rhetorical features. However, few scholars have studied the stylistic features of English sports news in details. Therefore, 60 typical sports news mostly from yahoo, Heng Xing English Study and some sports websites are chosen to help analyze those stylistic features with the help of a small corpus in order that people who are interested in English sports news can understand the news reports better. Besides, this study will contribute to the development of news and color the contents of the studies of English news. What’s more, it can promote the communication and the relationships between China and foreign countries.
