摘要

谚语是国家文化观念的产物，它反映了一个国家的社会风俗和文化观念。在人类文化中包含着女性歧视，因而英语谚语中也存在女性歧视的成份。本文从三个方面探讨了英语谚语中对女性的歧视现象，分别是对女性附属地位的贬低、对女性人格的扭曲以及将女性与动物联系在一起因而进一步体现歧视性，每个方面都举例加以说明。同时又从历史、文化和社会因素三个方面对英语谚语中性别歧视的根源做了探讨与分析。通过这些分析展现谚语中女性歧视现象，表明女性地位的低下，引人深思，有助于正确认识和理解英语谚语中的性别歧视现象。

Abstract

Proverbs are products of national culture, which can reflect social customs and cultural concepts of a country. In the human culture, there is female discrimination, which naturally appears in English proverbs. In this paper, three aspects of female discrimination in English proverbs are discussed, including the subsidiary status of the female, the distortion of female personality and the combination with animals. What’s more, some typical examples are given to illustrate this phenomenon. At the same time, roots of female discrimination in English proverbs are analyzed from three aspects: history, culture and society. And the analysis clearly indicates the inferior status of the female, which is helpful for people to recognize and understand the female discrimination in English proverbs.
