Abstract

Disney’s release of Mulan has caused a big stir in China and studies on this movie have been carried out by scholars from various academic institutions from various perspectives. Disney popularizes a Chinese character and an ancient Chinese folktale, which otherwise will be probably unknown to the world ; on the other hand, Chinese movie viewers find that the new Mulan has some new feature invisible in her old image from Chinese legends. This paper first summarizes the outstanding Chinese cultural elements adopted by Disney animation producers successfully. These elements add great charms to the movie: Chinese philosophies, clan culture, regional culture and special Chinese cultural symbols. Following the first step, the author  analyzes the transformation of Chinese culture by western movie producers in three aspects, i.e. gender discrimination and feminist ideology, social value and personal value realization, monarchy and democracy, which shows Sino-American cultural differences reflected in Mulan Ci and animation Mulan. At the same time, this paper tries to inspire people to enjoy movies, enhance people's cultural sensitivity and culture understanding to guarantee effective cross-cultural communication. From the case of Mulan, the history of absorbing Chinese culture in alien culture can be seen and the transformation, update and spread of general rules of Chinese culture can be demonstrated.

摘        要

迪斯尼动画片《花木兰》在国内外引起了强烈反响，好莱坞对东方题材的挖掘和对东方文化的改编引起了东方学者的广泛关注。《花木兰》这个古老的中国故事被改编成了一个现代故事，木兰被鲜活地呈现给了世界观众。中国观众在欣赏着迪斯尼呈现的木兰故事过程中感觉到木兰的形象中有不少西方特征。本文先分析了影片所反映出的中国文化，肯定了其对中国的哲学思想、家族文化、地域文化及其他典型中国文化符号的成功运用，奠定了影片成功的基础。然后笔者从三个角度，即“男尊女卑”等级思想与女权主义思想，社会价值的实现和个人价值的实现，君主专制和民主政体，分析了《木兰辞》与电影《花木兰》中体现出来的中美文化的不同。通过文化对比试图激发人们欣赏电影时的文化敏感度，增强人们对本民族及文化的认识与了解，从而保障跨文化交际能够有效地进行。从《花木兰》的个案可以看出中国文化在异国被吸收、改造、更新的一段历程和中国文化对外传播的一般性规律。
