Abstract

Since the 20th century, a dramatic change of marriage can be seen in the United States. With words like“Cohabitation”, “homosexuality”, “divorce”, it's a popular choice today. A large number of studies on American marriage views have been done and some fruits are achieved. The impact of marriage view on people can not be ignored, so it is necessary and  meaningful for us to study the American view on marriage.
Through comparing The Great Gatsby and Forrest Gump, this paper tries to illustrate the characters' view on marriage, and find out the similarities and differences. It further explores the factors which influence people's marriage view. By studying these two works together, it may help young people to understand what marriage view they should hold.
This paper consists of four parts. First, it introduces the authors’ life experience and the background of Forrest Gump and The Great Gatsby. Second, it analyzes the character’s different marriage view. Third, it further compares the character’s marriage views from several perspectives. The fourth part tries to discuss the enlightenment to the modern society. In the fifth part, this thesis draws a conclusion that marriage view plays an important role in shaping a happy marriage.

摘  要

   自19世纪以来，美国的婚姻发生了戏剧化的转变。“同居”、“同性恋”、“离婚“、等词频频出现。许多专家学者已对美国婚姻观做了大量的调查研究，并取得了一定的成果。婚姻观对人们的影响不容小觑，因此，探究美国婚姻观是必要且有意义的。
 本文意在通过对《了不起的盖茨比》和《阿甘正传》两部作品的比较，探究主人公们婚姻观的相同之处与不同之处，并进一步研究影响人们婚姻观的因素。通过对这两部作品的分析，可以帮助当代青年人理解何为正确的婚姻观。
    论文由四部分组成。首先，简要介绍了《阿甘正传》和《了不起的盖茨比》两部作品作者的生活经历和创作背景。第二部分主要分析主人公各自的婚姻观；第三部分从几个方面对比分析了两部作品中主人公婚姻观；第四部分意在揭示通过两部作品的分析对现实社会婚姻观的意义；最后通过以上分析总结归纳出良好的婚姻观是幸福婚姻的关键所在。
