摘要

海明威是美国著名小说家，其一生创作了多部优秀的小说，成功地塑造了一个个生动鲜明的硬汉形象，他的诸多作品如《老人与海》、《永别了，武器》都早已深入人心。在海明威的作品中，悲剧精神是重要的内容之一。然而，这种精神在国内研究中并未得到广泛的关注。实际上，悲剧精神是海明威笔下人物的核心精神之一，它蕴含了对于人生的丰富思考。本文作者以海明威著作《老人与海》为例，结合海明威生平，简要分析了海明威作品中悲剧精神的内涵。

Abstract

Ernest Hemingway is a famous American novelist. He has created many tough heroes in his works such as The Old Man and the Sea and A Farewell to Arms. The spirit of tragedy is a quite significant theme in Ernest Hemingway’s works, but was talked little in China. In fact, such spirit is the core of Hemingway’s characters. The spirit of tragedy contains many connotations of life. The writer in this thesis mainly analyses the spirit based on Hemingway’s greatest novel --- The Old Man and the Sea, and explain the connotations of life in the spirit of tragedy. Santiago, the main character of the novel, and Hemingway are both analyzed in the thesis. The writer also makes an analysis of the meaning of the spirit of tragedy.
