摘要

本文主要采用文献查阅法以及论文论证中的比较分析法的方式来进行论述，通过了解威尔斯的身世学历和他写作时的时代背景，并分析威尔斯的一些代表性科幻小说，如《时间机器》、《莫洛博士岛》、《隐身人》和《世界大战》，以及与这些作品相关的文献著作，来阐述作者如何运用象征手法来折射现实意义，如用莫洛的荒谬实验象征现代科技的滥用、用隐身象征个体脱离社会并与之反抗的现实、用火星人的入侵象征帝国主义与殖民主义统治者的残酷行径等，使现代人类对自己和这个世界有更深刻的认识和反思。

Abstract

This paper carries out discourse mainly by adopting the method of document retrieval and the method of comparative analysis of literature search demonstration. Through exploring Wells’ life experience and education background as well as the era background of his writing, and analyzing some of Wells’ typical science fictions, such as The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds, and several articles or works related with these science novels, this paper tries to expound how Wells uses symbolic technique to reflect their realistic meanings, like using Moreau’s absurd experiments to symbolize the misuse of the modern technology, using invisibility to symbolize the reality of individuals cutting off from and against the society, using the disastrous Martian invasion to symbolize the cruel behavior of the imperialists as well as the colonists, and so on, enabling modern human beings to have much more profound understanding and reflection on this world and especially on themselves.
