目的论视角下张爱玲《金锁记》英译研究_英语论文

Translation Study on The Golden Cangue from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

摘要

张爱玲是中国文学史上少有的传奇女作家，但“作家张爱玲”众人皆知，“译者张爱玲”却知者甚少。张爱玲的翻译成就被忽视了很久。《金锁记》是张爱玲的代表作之一，曾使她声名大振。赴美定居后，在不同时期由于不同目的，张爱玲还曾多次翻译，改写《金锁记》。现在，许多学者开始关注张爱玲的翻译成就，对《金锁记》英译的研究也越来越多，例如比较分析不同译本，从多种翻译理论角度分析译本等等，但从目的论角度分析《金锁记》英译的并不多。

翻译目的论认为翻译目的决定翻译策略，包含三个基本原则：目的原则，连贯性原则和忠实性原则，目的原则是首要原则。本文试从目的论的角度分析张爱玲经夏志清邀请翻译的版本。具体分析《金锁记》中人名称谓，习语，无主句和比喻的翻译，并总结张爱玲是如何运用其翻译策略来实现自己的翻译目的的。

经过分析，论文得出结论：张爱玲主要运用异化的翻译策略，大量使用直译，保留中文语言文化特色，达到了吸引外国读者，向外宣传中国文化的目的。在必要时使用归化策略，提高了译文可读性。

Abstract

Eileen Chang was a legendary writer in the history of Chinese literature. She was famous as a writer but unknown as a translator. Her translation was ignored for a long time. Jin Suoji was one of Chang’s master pieces, making her take off. After settling in America, Eileen Chang translated and rewrote it many times in different periods of time for different purposes. At present, many scholars begin to pay attention to Eileen Chang’s translation. There are more and more researches on the translation of Jin Suoji, such as comparison between different English versions, researches from perspectives of different translation theories and so on. However, research on the translation of Jin Suoji based on Skopos theory is rare. 

The Skopos theory holds that the translation purpose justifies translation strategies. It includes three rules: Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. Skopos rule is the primary one. This thesis makes a specific case study on one of the English versions of Jin Suoji, The Golden Cangue, from the perspective of Skopos theory. A detailed analysis of the translation of names and appellations, idioms, sentences with no subjects and metaphor and simile will be made to see how Eileen Chang meets her translation goals by adopting different translation strategies.

From the analysis, the conclusion can be drawn that Eileen Chang mainly adopts foreignization, but also adopts domestication when necessary to smooth reading. She uses literal translation a lot which retains Chinese language and cultural features in order to attract western readers and introduce Chinese culture. The Golden Cangue meets the translation goals, also has high readability.
