An Analysis of Translating Person Names in A Hero Born: Legends of the Condor Heroes Vol. 1 from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence_英语论文

摘要

本文试以奈达提出的“功能对等”为理论指导，选取郝玉青译《射雕英雄传第一卷：英雄诞生》中人名的翻译作为研究对象,研究郝玉青在的翻译过程中是否取得了功能对等。本论文作者把《红楼梦》中出现的人名分成三类：汉族人名，蒙古族人名和女真族人名。郝玉青应用了音译，直译，意译，创造新名字等方法翻译不同民族的姓名。译文中大部分人名基本达到了原文人名在原文中同样的功能，并且为目标语读者的阅读提供了便利。

Abstract

Functional Equivalence Theory proposed by Eugene A. Nida as the theoretical guide, is applied to discuss the translation of person names in Anna Holmwood’s A Hero Born: Legends of the Condor Heroes Vol. 1 to see whether the translated version achieves the functional equivalence. Person names in A Hero Born are classified in three groups: Han names, Mongolian names and Jurchen names. In translating these three kinds of names, Anna Holmwood uses different methods such as transliteration, literal and liberal translation, or creates new first names. Most of Anna Holmwood’s translations of names acquire the same function as names in the source text and provide convenience for target language readers.
