A Study on the Importance of Setting Situational Context in English Teaching

摘要

英语课程标准强调学生的语言运用能力。语言的运用需要存在于具体的语境中。在英语教学的实践过程中，语言学家和英语教师渐渐的发现了语境对于英语教学的促进作用，因此语境在英语教学中越来越受到重视。

通过文献研究的方法，了解我国英语教学中所存在的一些问题以及现状，也发现语境在英语教学中的重要作用。因此，讨论有效的语境设置在英语教学中的重要作用具有现实和理论意义。教师要转变以往传统观念，利用语境进行教学。

作者试图分别回答以下问题：为什么在语境中进行教学？语境的重要作用是什么？以及如何在英语教学当中设置有效的语境。

Abstract

English Course Standard emphasizes the development of students’ ability to use English. The use of language needs to be engaged in specific context. In the process of English teaching practice, linguists and English teachers find out that context has promotional effect in English teaching. English teachers lay more stresses on context.

 With the help of references and works, this thesis obtains information about problems existing in English teaching and current situation of English teaching in China. Through references, the thesis gets information about the importance of setting context in English teaching. Thus, the study on the importance of setting effective context in English teaching is of great value. Teachers should change their traditional views on English teaching and make use of context into the process of teaching.

In this thesis, the following questions will be answered respectively: Why do we need to teach English in context? What are the vital functions of context? How do we set effective context in English teaching?
