A Study on English Movie Title Translation

摘要

随着经济的发展，中国与世界的联系日益增多。而在众多交流中，电影文化的输入与输出是其中一个重要的方面。就外国电影来说，中国观众最熟悉的是英文电影。电影片名是观众接触的第一要素，正确而创新地翻译电影片名给能给观众传达正确的故事情节信息且能够吸引观众，创造出其该有的商业价值，因此英文电影片名的翻译就显得非常重要。

作者在分析了英文电影片名的特征、功能以及一些误译的情况的基础之上，探讨了电影片名翻译的原则和方法，以期对电影片名翻译有所帮助。

Abstract

With the development of economy, China has more connection with the outside world, among which, movie is an important part. English movies are the most familiar ones to Chinese audience among foreign movies. The movie title is the first thing for audience to get the information of the movie, thus a proper movie title translation can not only convey the information of the movie correctly but also catch the attention of the audience to hit a huge box office. Therefore, the translation of English movie titles is of great significance.

After analyzing the characteristics, functions and some mistranslations of movie titles, the writer of this paper explores the principles and skills for movie title translation, in hope that it could be of certain help to movie title translation.
