Abstract
This thesis aims at studying translation from the theoretical perspective, based on the study of translator’s subjectivity of Wang Rongpei manifested in his version of the Book of Poetry, for the purpose of figuring out his translation strategies and methods in accomplishing his version of Chinese classics and realizing his translator’s subjectivity. Through a detailed analysis, the author of this thesis comes to following conclusions: Wang Rongpei realizes his subjectivity of translator in his process of translating Chinese classics due to his subjective factors such as his cultural and aesthetic orientation, his obsession with Chinese and Western literature and his awareness of the significance of classic translation which needs the creativity and art, thus he puts forward his translation principles “conveyance of the ideas of the original” and “full aesthetic values”; Wang Rongpei’s special favor of the Book of Poetry and his strong motivation of spreading Chinese splendid culture help him not only retain the original flavor of the Chinese poem through translating poetry by poetry but also makes his version readable by giving new vivid images; Wang Rongpei’s version of The Book of Poetry also exists some deficiency. He renders it only from the literary point of view and attaches too much importance to its aesthetic value, neglecting the Confucianism which is the cultural essence of this traditional classic implied in it; in the process of translating Chinese classics, the translator should have a strong sense of responsibility and national identity of traditional Chinese culture and translate the Chinese classics from a historical and cultural point of view.
These conclusions which have been drawn above have following significance. This thesis expands and deepens the study of the subjectivity of translators by a detailed analysis of Wang Rongpei’s subjectivity such as his translation principles and strategies employed in his process of rendering Chinese classics, and preliminarily figures out the way of how to realize the subjectivity of the translators in rendering the Chinese classics into English versions, especially in translating the Book of Poetry, which is conducive to the enterprise of translating Chinese classics and spreading Chinese splendid culture.

摘 要
本文旨在进行翻译的理论研究,以译者主体性作为切入点,对汪榕培的翻译理论和实践进行个案研究,试图探讨译者主体性在汪榕培典籍英译理论及实践中的体现,并具体分析其在英译《诗经•风》时翻译策略和技巧的使用。通过研究讨论,本文得出了以下结论:汪榕培的个人主观因素的形成对其翻译活动的影响颇大,个人文化和审美取向以及对中西文学的醉心令其投入于中国典籍的翻译和研究,并在此实践过程中认识到典籍英译是中西文学的交流、文化的传播,需要艺术和创造,故提出了深刻独特的“传神达意”的翻译策略,实现了其译者主体性;由于对中国古典文学《诗经》的独特青睐以及力图在翻译过程中既保留中国传统文化的精髓又有效地传扬中国文化的翻译动机,在《诗经》英译过程中提出了应“以诗译诗”,采用押韵的形式既保持原诗的风貌,又赋予译本生动逼真的形象的主张,并将这一主张贯穿于其《诗经》的英译,彰显了其译者主体性;汪榕培的典籍英译也存在一定的问题,其只是站在文学的角度,进行了文学作品的翻译,实现了《诗经》美学的传播,忽视了其历史价值和内含的儒家思想,丢失了《诗经》内在中国传统文化的精髓;译者在典籍英译过程中应具备强烈的民族责任感和对中国传统文化的认同感,站在历史的角度和传统文化思想的高度上进行典籍英译。
本文通过对汪榕培《诗经•风》英译中的译者主体性研究,分析其翻译策略与技巧,拓展与深化了译者主体性的研究,初步解答了如何在典籍英译过程中如何充分发挥译者的主体性,汪榕培如何在其《诗经》英译中实现其译者主体性。这为能较好地翻译中国典籍,有效地传播中国文化寻找到合适了的方法,能促进中国传统文化典籍的翻译事业。
