Abstract
There is a close connection between linguistic form and ideology. As a mass media, news is influenced by the ideology of the writer. The ideology guides the text structure, sentence structure and words. In translating, the translator recreates the text based on the understanding of the source text. This process involves the ideology of the translator as well. By analyzing and comparing the source text and the translation, we can find out the underlying ideology from the whole text, sentence structure and lexis, and makes it explicated. The context chosen, adjustment of sentence structure, change of voice are all useful information for us to uncover the underlying ideology.
KEYWORDS:ideology;source text;translation.
1.1 The research background
The information conveyed by texts may be similar or even same, however, the linguistic forms are complete different. That is because different writers have different attitude or feelings towards same information. Take news as an example. As a kind of public discourse, news is always marked as fair, impartial, and without any biased comments. In fact, news is not completely objective as some people claim, but is influenced by ideologies of reporters. News is affected greatly by mainstream culture and is used as a tool to meet human need or severs a certain beneficial subject. However, it doesn’t mean that the writer points out clearly his attitude towards a certain event or policy. Some views are of obvious tendency and can be easily realized by readers, while some are not so obvious.
The latter kind is the just the subject that needs to be discussed. Reporters convey their ideologies to readers through language consciously or unconsciously. In other word, ideology implicitly or explicitly links to language. Ideology affects writers’ way of constructing texts, so does it happen in the process of translating.
