Abstract

International communications and cooperations are more and more, the topic Humorous Translation has drown scholars' wide attention. Because humorous translation not only creates a kind of comfortable talking environment for foreign friends, but also opens an invisible door for more communications and cooperations in the future.
The English word “humor”, which originally comes from the Latin, is the meaning of "moisture". It is known to all that British and American people is the most humorous nation throughout the world. Their sense of humor has already infiltrated the British and American literature and their lives.
Although all nations have their senses of humor, the senses of humor in different nations distinguish widely from each other. Humor is often associated closely with religion, ideology, social values, political systems, cultural practices and so on. However, humor is not equal to ridicule. If the progress of translation is careless, things could go contrary to our wishes and the talk would even break up in a discord. Therefore, in order to open the gate of humorous translation, we must be first to understand common methods of English humor and British and American culture included.
My thesis will be combined with Relevance Theory from Functional Translation, take some fragments in American famous sitcom Friends as examples, and discuss the birth and effects of the humor included by situational knowledge, language context knowledge and encyclopedic knowledge. The progress of correct understanding of  humorous words in Friends, would provide English humorous translation and subtitle translation with some useful inspirations. And it ought to have some practical significances, too.

摘要

随着国际间交流与合作的日益增多，英语幽默的翻译这一课题已引起了学者们的广泛注意。因为英语幽默的翻译不单单是给外国友人创造了一种舒适的谈话环境，与此同时还为彼此间以后更多的交流与合作打开了一扇无形的大门。
英语中幽默（humor）一词来源于拉丁语，是“湿润”（moisture）的意思。英美人是世界上最富有幽默感的民族，这种幽默感已经渗透了英美文学作品以及他们的生活之中。
尽管幽默是各个民族共同存在的，但不同民族的幽默感差异却很大。幽默往往与宗教信仰、意识形态、社会观念、政治制度、文化习俗等具有密切的关系。虽然幽默不等于嘲笑，但假如翻译得不好，便会造成误会，甚至搞得彼此不欢而散。因此，要开启幽默翻译之门之前就必须先了解英语幽默的常用手法和其中所蕴含的英美文化。
本文将结合功能翻译理论中的关联理论，以美国著名情景喜剧《老友记》中某些片段为例，运用情景知识、语言上下文知识和百科知识讨论其中幽默的产生及其效果。正确理解《老友记》幽默言语的这一过程，对于英语幽默的翻译以及影视字幕翻译将提供一些有益启示，并具有一定的实践意义。
