跨文化交际视角下华语电影字幕英译的翻译策略研究—以《金陵十三钗》为例

— with The Flowers of War as a Case
摘要
在全球化时代中,电影字幕翻译作为实现跨文化交际有效的媒介,它的意义逐渐呈现出来。然而这一领域的研究还远远不足,已有的研究更多地局限于探索理论框架和在某种翻译理论指导下的翻译策略,在跨文化交际视角下进行的研究则很少。先前的研究主张在翻译电影字幕时首选归化法,以确保交流顺畅。然而,在归化、异化和交际翻译论的指导下,本文提出用异化法翻译电影字幕对实现有效的跨文化交际也有着积极的作用。此外,本文探讨了在跨文化交际视角下华语电影《金陵十三钗》的字幕英译的翻译策略。
本文共分为六部分。第一部分介绍研究动机、研究意义和论文的结构;第二部分简单综述了字幕翻译在国内外的发展历程和先前从跨文化交际角度对电影字幕翻译的研究;第三部分介绍了案例《金陵十三钗》;第四部分提出了研究理论依据;第五部分分析了在归化、异化和交际翻译理论的指导下电影《金陵十三钗》的字幕翻译策略;最后一部分总结了整篇论文。
这篇论文所得结论为在在电影《金陵十三钗》的字幕英译中,译者在归化、异化及语义和交际翻译理论的指导下,运用了意译、概略化、直译、音译和缩译法的翻译策略,以达到不同文化有效交流的目的。

Abstract
In the era of globalization, film subtitle translation, as an effective medium of intercultural communication, has gained its significance. Yet studies in this field are far from being sufficient, which are more constrained to the exploration of theoretical framework and translation strategies under a certain translation theory, leaving the studies in light of intercultural communication hardly covered. The previous studies in this regard assert that domestication should be the priority choice in order to enable a smooth communication. However, under the guidance of the theories of domestication and foreignization and communicative translation, this thesis argues that foreignization of film subtitle translation also contributes positively to an effective intercultural communication. In addition, the thesis discusses the translation strategies of film subtitles with The Flowers of War as a Case in light of intercultural communication.
The thesis is divided into six parts. The research motive, significance and layout of the thesis are introduced in the first part; the domestic and foreign developments of subtitle translation are briefly reviewed in the second part along with the previous studies on subtitle translation in the light of intercultural communication; the third part introduces the case of The Flowers of War; research theories are presented in the fourth part; the fifth part analyzes the subtitle translation strategies of The Flowers of War under the guidance of domestication, foreignization and communicative translation; and the sixth part is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
The thesis concludes that in Chinese-English film subtitle translation of The Flowers of War, strategies of free translation, generalization, literal translation, transliteration and condensation are adopted under the guidance of domestication, foreignization as well as semantic and communicative translations in order to achieve an effective communication among different cultures.
