Abstract:

This thesis concentrates on an analysis of English-Chinese film subtitle translation from the perspective of skopos theory. Linguistic features of film subtitle translation are summarized. A case study of subtitling and dubbing translation in Life of Pi is conducted to analyze which kind of strategies should be adopted under various purposes. The thesis is an attempt to appeal to people for attaching more importance to film subtitle translation. Translators should be responsible to apply certain theory and strategies to improve the translation level. With the joint effort of everyone, our country’s film translation is bound to form its own characteristics. And being a highlight in the area of translation will never be a dream.

本文将从目的论的视角出发，对英文电影的字幕翻译活动进行研究和分析，总结归纳出字幕翻译的语言特点。并以《少年派的奇幻漂流》中的字幕和配音翻译作为个案进行研究，分析在种种目的下应采用的适当翻译策略。希望借此能引起人们对电影字幕翻译的重视，译者能够认真负责，运用一定的理论和翻译方法策略提高翻译水平。通过大家的努力，我国的影视翻译必定会形成自己的特色。它成为翻译领域的一大亮点将不再是个梦。

1．Introduction
Nowadays, following the rapid development of globalization, an increasing number of foreign films are introduced into our country and gain in popularity. Film, as a kind of popular entertainment, reflects the culture of its society. Not only can imported films bring people recreation, but also enable them to have a broad vision of the world, get knowledge about foreign languages and cultures and experience the diverse life. As a result, it’s impossible for us to ignore the effects of foreign films in our life.
