Abstract  
        
Language is loaded with cultural elements, and idioms are abstracted from language, which has rich cultural connotation. There are many animal idioms exist in both Chinese and English language, because animals are closely related to the human life among all of creatures. However, the cultural differences, religious differences, and geographic differences lead to the misunderstanding of the animal idioms and internal connotation. Sometimes, same zoomorphism is endowed different cultural connotation. On the contrary, same cultural connotation can be expressed by different zoomorphism. Therefore, in the precess of translating animal idioms, translator should follow translation principles and take proper translation strategies in order to precisely conveying cultural connotation of animal idioms.
By discussing the characteristics and origins of the animal idioms in detail, this paper try to find out the reasons for the differences of animal idioms in Chinese and English, and put forward to translation principles and strategies of animal idioms to realize the transmission of animal idioms’ cultural connotation and to be benefit to cross-culture communication. At the same time, the author also expects the research on idioms translation become more extensive and deeper.
There are four parts in the thesis. The Chapter One introduce definition, origins and characters of idioms and animal idioms. Chapter Two focus on zoomorphism and cultural connation they contained. The next part mainly explore the reasons, which lead to the differences of animal idioms in English and Chinese. The final sector attach great importance to translation principles and strategies of animal idioms.

摘  要

语言是文化的载体，习语作为一种重要的语言现象含有丰富的文化内涵。由于动物和人类的密切关系，中英两种语言中都有大量与动物相关的习语。受历史文化，宗教，地理状况等不同因素的影响，两种语言在动物习语的使用上有着不小的差异：同一种动物可能蕴含不同的文化含义，而同一种含义又可能由不同的动物来表达。因此，为了正确传达动物习语的文化内涵，翻译习语时需要遵循一定的翻译原则，采用合适的翻译方法。
本文试图分析动物习语的特点，来源等，探究造成汉英动物习语差异产生的成因，进而提出动物习语的翻译策略和翻译方法，以期最大程度上传达动物习语的文化内涵，并对跨文化交际有所裨益。同时也希望本文的研究能够引起学者对动物习语翻译更广泛、深入的研究。
本文分为四个部分，第一章介绍了习语和动物习语的定义，起源和特点；第二章主要关注动物形象和他们包含的文化内涵；第三章探究了中英动物习语差异的成因；最后一章详述了动物习语翻译需要遵循的翻译原则和翻译策略。
