[摘  要]

本文采用对比的研究方法，从词汇空缺现象的定义入手，寻找魔幻词汇的词汇空缺出现的原因及此类词汇翻译的难点，而后对其进行分类讨论。以探讨《哈利波特》系列小说中文版中的魔幻词汇的词汇空缺现象的翻译策略和方法。最终发现，无论归化或是同化的翻译策略，在此系列小说中都是适用的。因此，只有基于对词汇本身特点的分析，及深入领悟作者在词汇中所赋予的意义，选择灵活的翻译策略、采用多种翻译方法，才是此类词汇最佳的翻译途径。

Abstract:

This paper discusses the translation of lexical gap in translation in the Chinese version of Harry Potter novels by examining in definition of lexical gap, difficulties in translation of lexical gap and classification of lexical gap in Harry Potter series in the light of analysis of Chinese translation, so as to explore proper translation methods and strategies of lexical gap in the novels. It is found that either foreignization or domestication are proper translation strategies in different category of lexical gap, therefore it is proposed to make a flexible choice of translation strategies and methods according to features they have and categories they fall into.

1. Introduction
Harry Potter novels have possessed its popularity for ten years, not only the original English edition but also the translation works which has spread to every corner on the earth. In China, translators of these best-selling literature works have done a fantastic translation work in presenting J. K. Rowling’s magic world to Chinese readers -- a group of experienced readers who have enjoyed thousand years of Chinese magic novels and legends. In particular, the translation of the magic words, the essence of this creational writing, is an inevitable difficulty which can be concluded as the problem of lexical gap in translation. This paper attempts to analysis the translation work in the Chinese edition based on the definition and traditional translation strategies as well as the related study findings of lexical gap in order to explore a systematic strategy and to offer some revised versions that might be helpful in improving the present translation work.
