Abstract:

Language is a vital communication tool and culture carrier. Also as a social phenomenon, language and society depend on and influence each other. The social changes will necessarily bring about changes in language, especially in lexis, “the most sensitive component of language”. The development of society and the progress in science and technology always breed a large number of new words. With the more frequent contact and exchanges between China and other countries, many new things and new ideas are also introduced into China, which certainly leads to the large-scale influx of loanwords into China. Therefore, the translation of loanwords has become a pressing and noteworthy research topic, which is of both realistic significance and theoretic value.
This thesis falls into 5 parts: Part 1 is introduction; Part 2 introduces the definition of loanwords and significance of translating loanwords; Part 3 proposes practical principles for the translation of loanwords; Part 4 is a discussion of the effective translation strategies. Part 5, as the concluding remark, the writer summarizes and comments on the principles and strategies for the Chinese translation of loanwords.

摘要：

语言是重要的交际工具和文化载体。语言又是一种社会现象, 它和社会相互依存和影响, 社会的变化必然会引起语言的变化, 尤其是反映在词汇中, 因为词汇始终是“语言中最敏感的构成部分”。社会的发展和科技的进步, 使新词语层出不穷。随着中国对外交往的不断扩大, 许多新事物和新观念也被介绍进来,这就必然导致外来词以前所未有的速度和规模涌入中国。对外来词的翻译也就成了一项具有理论价值和现实意义的课题。
本文共分为五部分。第一部分为引言; 第二部分介绍了外来词的界定及翻译的重要意义；第三部分主要探讨了外来词翻译的原则；第四部分则分析了外来词汉译的有效策略。第五部分为本文的结语，简要总结了外来词翻译的原则和策略。

Introduction
Language is the most important communication tool of people to express and exchange their ideas. With the development of society and the progress in science and technology, language is also in a process of constant changes and development, since language is most sensitive to the social changes. It is universally recognized that language is not only a scientific system, but also a social phenomenon. Language and society depend on and influence each other. Meanwhile, it may change with the development of society. Changes of social life often bring about changes of language.
