Abstract:
C-E translation of cultural default is very important in literary translation. The ultimate goal of translation is to promote intercultural communication between two cultures. Cultural default in literary works has not only communicative value, but also aesthetic value. However, cultural default causes the difficulties of coherent interpretation. Differences between cultures require translators to compensate for cultural defaults. Based on previous studies of cultural default, this paper firstly expounds the importance of translation of cultural default in literary translation, and then makes an analysis of the C-E translation of cultural default in literary works from the perspective of medio-translatology, and finally it probes into the translation strategies and compensation methods of cultural default by analyzing some examples from Wei Cheng and its English version, drawing a tentative conclusion that creative treason is a meaningful method in C-E translation of cultural default in literary works.

Introduction
Ch’ien Chung-shu was familiar with Chinese and western cultures. He was excellent at literary study and literary creation; he played an important role in promoting cultural communication between China and the West, especially rationally preserving the good traditions of Chinese culture and abandoning the bad ones and selectively taking advantage of foreign cultures. Ch’ien was devoted to introducing Chinese literature into world literature throughout his life.
Wei Cheng was Ch’ien Chung-shu’s only long novel. It was written from 1944 to 1946 and first published by Shanghai Chen Guang Press in 1947. Since its publication, Wei Cheng received wide attention in the world. However, the novel remained unconcerned for about 30 years because of the departure of its themes from the temporal political situation in China. After the reform and opening up policy was carried out, Wei Cheng regained much attention and a reputation for its humorous style and exquisite language, and readers are also pleasantly surprised at the culture it presents.
