摘  要

牡丹亭，是中国古代文学的重要组成部分，被认为是中国传统戏剧的巅峰之一。由于戏剧艺术的双重性，现代戏剧翻译有两种不同的角度，作为阅读文本或作为戏剧作品。这表明戏剧翻译可以以其中一个为目的。目的论强调翻译中译文的目的，目的论注重原文，认为在翻译过程中最重要的因素是译者的目的。本文采用了目的论来讨论戏剧翻译的目的，以汪榕培和许渊冲两个英译本中的标目一出为例进行了话语分析。作者发现这两位译者的翻译目的不同，汪将牡丹亭作为文学剧本进行翻译，注重翻译内容大于翻译形式，而许译牡丹亭则是用于舞台表演，注重翻译形式大于翻译的内容。作者希望本文可以对戏剧翻译研究做出一点贡献，也希望中国传统戏剧翻译引起更多关注。

Abstract

The Peony Pavilion, an ancient Chinese work with high artistic value, is an important part of ancient Chinese literature and is regarded as the peak of the Chinese traditional drama. There are several translation versions of The Peony Pavilion. Because of the duality inherent in the art of the drama, there are two different points of view of modern drama translation that either for written text or for theatrical production. That indicates that the English translation of drama may be translated for one of the two purposes. Before the Skopos theory, nearly all the translation theories focused on the source text，requiring the loyalty of the target text to source text. But German functionalist approach, with Skopos theory as the focus, emphasizes purpose of target text in course of translation. In Skopos theory, target text is the focus and the author’s translating purpose is the most important factor. This thesis adopts Skopos Theory to discuss the purpose of drama translation, and then takes the first scene Prelude of Professor Wang Rongpei’s and Xu Yuanchong’s English translations of The Peony Pavilion as an example, empirically makes the discourse analysis of The Peony Pavilion and to affirm the influence of translation purpose on translation strategies under Skopos Theory. The author found that two translators have different Skopos of the translation. Wang’s version pays more attention to the content of translation than the form of translation, while Xu’s version pays more attention to the form than the content. Through the comparison of the two English versions, the author wishes to make a little contribution to drama translation research and attract more attention to the translation of Chinese traditional dramas.
