Abstract:

Polite expressions are an important part of human language. It is also an important means of coordinating interpersonal relations and promoting successful communication. Manners are widespread in all kinds of languages and cultures, and people from different cultures often have misunderstandings in polite expressions in cross-cultural communication because of cultural differences. Pragmatic failures of polite expressions in cross-cultural communication have become a common phenomenon. And to a large extent they are influencing smoothness and effectiveness of communication. Those are the focus of this paper. This paper gives a description and analysis about the pragmatic failures of Polite expressions in daily verbal behaviors from the aspects of politeness principle, communication strategies, and reasons for failure and so on. In this paper, the author gives some instances to illustrate the pragmatic failures of several kinds of verbal behavior, from a new angle to analyze the causes of these failures, and further points out the important meaning and the enlightenment of Polite expressions in cross-cultural communication.

摘  要：

礼貌语言是人类语言的重要组成部分, 是协调人际关系和促进交流成功的重要手段。礼貌普遍存在于各种语言和文化当中, 而来自不同文化背景的人常常在跨文化交际中因为文化差异问题而在礼貌用语方面产生误解。跨文化交际中的礼貌用语的语用失误已经成为一个普遍的现象, 在很大程度上严重影响着交际的顺利进行和有效性, 这也是本论文研究的主要问题。本论文从语用学中的礼貌原则, 交际策略, 失误原因等角度对日常言语行为中的礼貌用语的语用失误进行了描述和简单的分析。本论文详细列举各实例来说明几种礼貌言语行为中的语用失误, 从一个新的视觉来分析导致这些失误的原因, 并进一步指出了礼貌用语在跨文化交际中的重要意义及启示。
